The first thing you will need to do is purchase a large fish tank. These fish can grow up to 16 inches in size, so you will need to purchase at least a 40 gallon tank. You will also need to invest in a thermometer, a heater and a filter for your tank. Oscar fish thrive in temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, so make sure that you monitor the temperature daily. Once you’ve purchased your Oscar and housed it in it’s new tank, make sure that you have plenty of food on hand. These fish require loads of protein and they love blood worms in particular, so stock up and feed your fish daily. Make sure to clean your fish tank weekly. Oscar fish create a lot of pollution compared to an average fish, so frequent cleaning is necessary. You will need to replace at least 20 percent of your tank water every week. You may also want to purchase fish tank cleaner to make the cleaning process easier. If you plan to add a lot of other fish to your aquarium, make sure that you are aware that Oscar fish are known for their aggressive tendencies. They generally don’t get along well with other fish, so choose carefully and don’t forget to feed them daily. Finally, make sure that you’ve give you Oscar fish plenty of visual stimulation.
